The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has once again proven its commitment to academic excellence by securing full accreditation for 36 out of the 37 academic programmes it presented to the National Universities Commission (NUC). The only exception, Hausa, received interim accreditation.
This remarkable achievement was announced following the NUC’s accreditation exercise conducted in October and November 2024. The outcome was communicated in an official letter dated April 30, 2025, and signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, the Acting Director of Accreditation on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu.
Addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), the letter emphasized that no programme was denied accreditation. The university’s unwavering dedication to maintaining high academic standards continues to set it apart.
Faculties such as Education, Engineering, Management Sciences, Basic Medical Science, Communication and Information Sciences, and Environmental Sciences had all their presented programmes fully accredited. The Faculty of Arts had two programmes reviewed—Igbo received full accreditation, while Hausa was granted interim accreditation.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, expressed elation at the news, noting that the recognition reflects the administration’s significant investment in both human and material resources. In a statement issued on his behalf by the university’s spokesperson, Mr. Kunle Akogun, he said:
“We are happy to be so recognised, we are indeed elated.”
Prof. Egbewole also extended his gratitude to the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and all faculty members who contributed to the success. He assured that more efforts would be made to build on this milestone and position the university for even greater achievements.
“It is our hope that we would continue to do our best to position the University for more recognitions,” he added.
