LASU Restricts Unapproved Skits, Videos and Filming Activities on Campus

The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has announced new measures to regulate the use of its campuses and facilities for content creation, following concerns over the growing production of unauthorised and inappropriate audiovisual materials within the institution.

In a statement released on Friday, the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, said the university observed an increasing trend, particularly among students, of recording skits, short videos and other content without official permission.

She explained that some of these materials were found to be offensive, misleading and not in line with the values, standards and public image of the university.

“Such content poses reputational risks and could undermine LASU’s status as a centre of learning, research and character development,” the university warned.

To address the situation, the management directed that all individuals or groups intending to carry out any form of cinematographic activity on campus must obtain prior approval from the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR). The office is located on the third floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building at the Ojo main campus.

According to the statement, the directive applies to skits, vox pops, short films, promotional videos and all other audiovisual recordings conducted within the university premises, including hostels and affiliated facilities.

The university also banned the use of drones within its environment without formal clearance from the security department, citing safety, privacy and security concerns.

Thomas-Onashile called on students, staff and other stakeholders to cooperate with the directive in order to protect the dignity, safety and reputation of Lagos State University.
