University of Abuja Law Student Remanded in Kuje Prison for Allegedly Raping 100-Level Medical Student Using NELFUND Scam

A 40-year-old University of Abuja law student has been remanded in custody after he was accused of raping a 100-level Medicine and Surgery student, using a fake NELFUND loan link as bait to lure her to his home.

The FCT High Court ordered that Monday Goodluck be held at Kuje Correctional Facility on Wednesday, after Justice M.S. Idris rejected an oral bail application filed by his defence counsel, Mr. Samson Francis.

Justice Idris directed the defence to file a written bail application and properly serve it to the prosecution. The case has been adjourned to June 9 for further hearing.

Goodluck faces a two-count charge of rape and causing physical injury, brought against him by the police.

Prosecution counsel Alexander Agbo told the court that Goodluck allegedly tricked the victim into visiting his residence by claiming he had a link to help her access the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

According to the prosecution, the incident took place at the defendant’s home around 11pm on March 25.

Agbo also alleged that Goodluck physically harmed the victim and shoved his fingers into her mouth to stop her from screaming.

The offences are said to be punishable under Sections 1(1), 1(2), and 2(1) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.

Goodluck has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
