COOU Promotes 13 Academics to Professor Rank at 122nd Governing Council Meeting

The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has approved the promotion of thirteen academics to the rank of Professor, following its 122nd Council Sitting held on June 12, 2026.

The promotions span several departments across the university, covering disciplines from Medicine and Surgery to Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Political Science and Entrepreneurship Studies.

The newly promoted professors are Dr Basil Agoha, Dr Ikechukwu Gbasouzor, Dr Nonso Mbah, Dr Uju Susan Muogbo, Dr Agary Nwokoye, Dr Ikechukwu Asika, Dr Chinyerem Nwachukwu, Dr Susan Oguejiofor, Dr Choice Okaforcha, Dr Anthonia Okoye, Dr Kennedy Owuama, Rev. Fr. Dr Emmanuel Dim and Dr Nkiru Patricia Chude.

The university described the elevations as recognition of their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, community service and the advancement of knowledge in their respective fields.

Speaking on behalf of the Governing Council, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof Peter A. Onwualu, congratulated the new professors and charged them to take their responsibilities more seriously at this new level.

He urged them to continue distinguishing themselves through innovation, impactful research and mentorship, stressing that their new rank comes with greater obligations to the university and the wider academic community.

The promotions are part of COOU’s broader effort to strengthen its human capital and boost its academic competitiveness. The university said the newly elevated professors are expected to play key roles in advancing its core mantra of Values, Viability and Visibility.
