Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has donated 45 refurbished optical microscopes to eight secondary schools in Zaria.
The microscopes were refurbished by the university’s Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC).
Five other refurbished laboratory facilities were also donated to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) and the University Health Services (UHS).
In addition, seven patrol electric bikes repaired by the centre were handed over to the University Security Division.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, presented the items to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the EMDC near ABU FM Radio, Samaru, Zaria, on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Of the 45 microscopes donated, ABU Demonstration Secondary School received 10 units while the remaining seven schools got five units each.
The other beneficiary schools are GSS Bomo, GSS Basawa, GGSS Samaru, GSS Jama’a, GSS Palladan, GSS Kwangila and Judy Schools, Hanwa Low Cost.
The laboratory equipment handed over to ABUTH included a double Jouan Thermoelectron Corporation refrigerator, two giant sample refrigerators and a Memmert oven.
A repaired blood bank refrigerator and a centrifuge were given to the University Health Services.
Speaking at the event, Professor Ahmed commended the Director of EMDC, Dr Abdulsalam Galadima, and his staff for their dedication.
He urged other units of the university to emulate the centre’s example.
In his welcome address, Dr Galadima appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his support towards the success of the centre.
The University Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T Zango, also expressed gratitude to the university management for supporting the Security Division.
He said the division is responsible for protecting lives and property, as well as maintaining peaceful coexistence within the university.
The Principal of ABU Demonstration Secondary School, Dr Abdulkarim Adamu Biu, and the Proprietress of Judy Schools, Hanwa Low Cost, Mrs Mary Judy Okeh, thanked the university for the donation.
They described the gesture as timely and promised to use the facilities judiciously for their intended purpose.
