Taraba State University is setting its sights on the future, with a clear commitment to delivering world-class education and producing graduates ready to thrive on a global stage.
Speaking at the institution’s 16th matriculation ceremony in Jalingo, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sunday Bako, emphasized the university’s dedication to academic excellence, character development, and fostering an environment that encourages students to grow and discover their passions.
“TSU is committed to providing a supportive and stimulating environment that allows students to grow, explore, and discover their passions. Our institution is committed to providing a world-class education that prepares you for success in your chosen field.
“We are proud to be a student-centered institution, dedicated to grooming generational leaders. Our focus is on academic excellence, character development, and preparing students to make meaningful contributions globally,” he said.
He encouraged students to adopt the values demonstrated by their lecturers—discipline, self-care, and a strong work ethic—as they begin their journey as ambassadors of the university. TSU, he said, prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive academic community that nurtures potential.
Professor Bako also acknowledged the strong backing of the Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, which has made it possible for the university to achieve significant milestones in the past year.
“I am delighted to showcase the outstanding achievements of our esteemed institution, accomplished during my stewardship and under the guidance and support of our visitor, His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State. Our achievements over the past year are a testament to this commitment,” he said.
The university has seen major investments in infrastructure, including the construction of modern lecture halls, science laboratories, and student-centered facilities like healthcare and recreational centers. New undergraduate and postgraduate programs have been launched, while staff development efforts have been scaled up for both academic and non-academic teams.
Two new faculties have been introduced—the Faculty of Computing and Architectural Intelligence, and the Faculty of Religion and Philosophy—equipping students with up-to-date skills in critical fields. An indoor sports complex has also been built, enhancing the student experience and encouraging teamwork and school spirit.
TSU’s impact goes beyond the classroom. The institution has increased its community outreach programs, built partnerships with local communities, and promoted cultural exchange. On an international level, it has formed collaborations for academic exchange, joint research, and project development with institutions abroad.
The university’s progress has not gone unnoticed. Professor Bako has received multiple accolades, including the National Merit Award for Best Vice-Chancellor in the Northeast and the Best Performing Vice-Chancellor of the Year from Rotary Club District 9125.
