MAAUN Shuts Down Two Female Hostels Over Safety and Conduct Violations

The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has taken action against two off-campus female hostels in Kano—Al-Ansar and Indabo—following reports of serious misconduct and safety concerns.

Located along UDB Road and in the Hotoro area, the hostels have now lost the university’s approval, and students have been instructed to vacate once their semester exams end.

The decision was announced in a statement released on Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, the Vice President for Campus Life. According to him, the move comes after a series of violations of the university’s code of conduct and accommodation standards.

“I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo female students hostels located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.

Dr. Garba cited multiple issues, including immoral behaviour, unauthorised night movements, violence among students, and even the presence of unidentified individuals in the hostels. He also mentioned poor living conditions such as inadequate water and electricity supply.

“These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” he said.

As part of the directive, students are to cut all ties with the hostels after moving out. The university added that it is working with security agencies to ensure full compliance.

Parents and students seeking approved housing alternatives have been asked to contact the Office of the Vice President for Campus Life via [email protected].

The university concluded by warning that it will not be liable for any consequences arising from non-compliance with the directive.
