Kano Girls to Receive ₦60,000 Education Support Stipend Under AGILE Project

In a significant boost for girls’ education in Kano State, the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project has raised the annual Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) for female secondary school students from ₦20,000 to ₦60,000 per beneficiary.

The AGILE project, supported by the World Bank, is committed to improving access to secondary education for girls, especially in underserved communities. The increased stipend is expected to help reduce financial barriers that often keep girls out of school.

During a sensitisation campaign in Bebeji Local Government Area, the Kano State AGILE CCT Coordinator, Malam Naziru Surajo, announced that People Living With Disabilities (PWDs) have now been added to the list of beneficiaries.

According to Surajo, “A total of 45,850 students have so far been enrolled under the initiative in the state. With the inclusion of PWDs, the number has risen to 52,320 across the 19 participating local government areas in the state. Bebeji Local Government is one of the 19 participating local governments in Kano, with 4,984 girls currently benefiting from the programme.”

He also noted that since the introduction of the cash transfer initiative, school enrollment among girls at both junior and senior secondary levels has increased by 31%.

The cash transfers are conditional, requiring beneficiaries to maintain at least 70% school attendance, reinforcing both commitment and accountability.
