Lagos Health College Matriculates 768 Students, Stresses Ethics and Professional Conduct

The Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) has matriculated 768 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with a strong call for professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct throughout their training.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Sule, urged the students to take their professional responsibilities seriously from the start of their academic journey. He noted that a dependable healthcare workforce is built when students embrace values such as integrity, compassion, and discipline early in their careers.

Sule, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Adeniran Kasali, encouraged the students to remain focused and uphold the reputation of the institution.

“It is a message you are giving yourself that you must be a good ambassador of this college as you go on in your academic journey,” he said.

The commissioner also highlighted Lagos State’s leadership in healthcare delivery and education standards, adding that this has made its tertiary institutions some of the most sought-after in the country.

In his address, the Provost of LASCOHET, Prof. Raheem Akewushola, reminded the new students that their chosen professions require more than academic excellence. According to him, character and integrity are equally critical to success in the health sector.

“The certificate awards lie basically on academic excellence, character and integrity,” he said.

Akewushola stressed that allied health professionals must show empathy, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility, particularly those studying health information management.

“They are custodians of patients’ information, and they must start learning now that confidentiality is non-negotiable,” the professor said.

He further noted that the demanding nature of health training calls for total commitment, attention to detail, and precision.

“Diligence, hard work, passion, being detailed and thoroughness are key. Precision is very key,” the provost added. (NAN)
