The University of Warwick has opened applications for its 2026 GREAT Scholarship, offering a £15,000 award to one Nigerian student admitted to a taught master’s programme starting in September 2026. The scholarship is offered in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign.
Scholarship Overview
The GREAT Scholarship is aimed at supporting high-achieving Nigerian students with strong academic backgrounds and leadership potential. The award will be applied directly towards tuition fees for eligible master’s programmes at the University of Warwick.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:
- Be a Nigerian national residing in Nigeria and classified as an international student for fee purposes
- Have applied to a taught master’s programme at the University of Warwick for the 2026 academic session
- Have achieved, or be on track to achieve, the equivalent of a high 2:1 degree (68 percent or above)
- Have received and accepted a conditional or unconditional offer from the university
- Be able to pay the remaining tuition fees and living expenses
- Declare the amount and source of any external funding already secured or applied for
Expectations for Successful Candidates
Successful scholars are expected to:
- Demonstrate active engagement in their chosen field through work experience or a clear academic interest
- Fully participate in the UK higher education experience by attending lectures, tutorials and extracurricular activities
- Act as ambassadors for UK higher education and promote the value of studying in the UK
- Represent the values of the GREAT brand by advocating for scholarship opportunities
- Attend networking events organised for UK-based GREAT scholars to share their study experiences
Commitments After Returning to Nigeria
After completing their studies, scholarship recipients are expected to:
- Contribute to capacity-building and socio-economic development in Nigeria using skills gained from UK education
- Maintain contact with the British Council and support future GREAT Scholarship candidates
- Occasionally speak to prospective applicants about their experience studying in the UK
