FUTMINNA VC Charges HODs on Confidentiality, Professionalism at SERVICOM Workshop

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, has urged Heads of Departments to uphold confidentiality and professionalism in carrying out their official duties.

He gave the charge on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Lecture Theatre of the School of Information and Communication Technology, Main Campus.

The occasion was a One-Day Second Refresher Workshop organised by the university’s SERVICOM Unit for Heads of Departments.

The workshop was themed “The Critical Role of Heads of Departments in the Service Delivery Chain of the University.”

It was designed to strengthen the capacity of HODs to contribute effectively to the university’s institutional objectives through professionalism, sound work ethics and improved service delivery.

Declaring the workshop open, Professor Kuta stressed the importance of confidentiality, warning that unauthorised disclosure of official information could damage an officer’s reputation and undermine productivity.

He called on participants to embrace emerging technologies and deploy available resources effectively to improve service delivery.

He also urged HODs to be proactive in identifying and addressing challenges that could affect service delivery.

On communication within the university, the Vice-Chancellor urged participants to stick to approved communication channels when transmitting official information.

He commended the SERVICOM Unit for organising the workshop and encouraged participants to translate the knowledge gained into improved performance in their departments.

Earlier, the Convener of the workshop and Focal Officer of the university’s SERVICOM Unit, Professor Adamu Kabiru, reaffirmed SERVICOM’s commitment to improving service delivery across public institutions in Nigeria.

He noted that FUTMINNA remains the only university in the country to attain a five star SERVICOM rating in service delivery.

He said the refresher training was meant to sustain and consolidate that achievement.

Kabiru urged the HODs to renew their commitment to sound work ethics, professionalism and responsive service delivery.

He thanked the university management, facilitators and participants for their contributions to the success of the programme.

The workshop held in two sessions, morning and afternoon, with presentations by senior university officials and experts on departmental administration and institutional effectiveness.

The morning session was chaired by former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Suleiman Omeiza Sadiku.

Professor Kabiru presented the lead paper on university work ethics.

Other presentations included Leadership and Administrative Skills by the University Registrar, Mallam Danladi Mallam, represented by Mr Kingsley Gana.

The Deputy Dean, Postgraduate School, Professor Michael Ojo, spoke on expectations of the Postgraduate School from HODs.

The Deputy Registrar, Academic Office, Mrs Omolola Alhassan, spoke on expectations of the Senate Business Committee from HODs.

The Deputy Bursar, Mrs Inyene Udoekanem, spoke on financial literacy and managing available funds in the university.

The Director, Academic Planning Unit, Professor John Alhassan, presented on expectations of the unit from HODs.

The afternoon session was chaired by former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Akim Osarhiemen Osunde.

It featured presentations on quality assurance, audit, information technology and examination administration.

The Deputy Director, Quality Assurance and Productivity Unit, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed, spoke on quality assurance in the departments.

The Deputy Director, Audit Unit, Mallam Mohammed Ashafa, discussed the role of the Audit Unit in guiding HODs.

The Director, Information Technology Services Unit, Dr Bala Salihu, concluded the presentations with a session on expectations of ITS from HODs regarding examinations and results.

The workshop gave Heads of Departments a platform to deepen their understanding of their administrative responsibilities and strengthen service delivery across the university.
