YABATECH Rector Urges Preventive Education to Tackle Rising Youth Vices

The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Ibraheem Abdul, has called for preventive education rather than arrests alone to tackle vices among Nigerian youths.

He warned that if left unchecked, these vices could destroy the future of many young people.

Mr Abdul spoke when a delegation from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), led by Oladimeji Moses, visited the institution.

The visit was to explore a strategic partnership on security and a campaign against vices among youths.

According to a statement, Mr Abdul said protecting youths against vices requires preventive education and early interventions.

He said education remains critical to securing Nigeria’s future.

He warned that allowing youths to embrace criminal influences could deprive Nigeria of future leaders, professionals and innovators.

The rector urged tertiary institutions to promote responsible citizenship among students.

Mr Abdul commended the LSSTF’s preventive approach, particularly its focus on sensitising youths against vices.

He pledged YABATECH’s support for the programme.

He said protecting young people remains a collective responsibility of institutions, government agencies, security organisations, parents, alumni associations and other stakeholders.
