Fire Guts Architecture Department Office At ADUSTECH Wudil, N20m Property Destroyed

A fire outbreak at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, ADUSTECH, Wudil, Kano State, has destroyed property estimated at N20 million.

The Federal Fire Service, FFS, Kano State Command, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying its personnel responded quickly and prevented the fire from spreading further.

The emergency call was received at about 11:38 am by the POLAC Fire Station after security personnel at the university reported the incident to the Commander of the Nigeria Police Academy.

The FFS said its Green Watch team, led by ASF II Nura Haladu, was immediately deployed to the university.

“On arrival, the team discovered that the fire involved files and other materials in an office at the Architecture Department,” the service said.

Firefighters from the FFS, working alongside personnel of the Kano State Fire Service, used two medium jets of water to put out the blaze.

The service said property estimated at N700 million was involved in the incident.

It added that assets worth about N680 million were saved, while property valued at approximately N20 million was destroyed.

A preliminary assessment indicated that the fire may have been caused by damaged electrical wiring.

However, the FFS said a full investigation had been ordered to establish the actual cause of the fire.

The State Controller of the FFS Kano Command, DCF Sadiq Usman Mahmud, commended the firefighters and the Kano State Fire Service for their quick response and cooperation in containing the blaze.

He urged schools, offices and members of the public to regularly inspect their electrical installations and replace damaged or faulty wiring.

According to him, taking such steps would help reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
