Medical students of Kaduna State University (KASU) have emerged overall winners at the 2026 Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NIMSA) North-West Regional Convention, held at Northwest University, Kano.
The President of the KASU Medical Students’ Association, Faisal Salis, disclosed this while presenting the award to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa.
He said more than 20 medical schools from universities across Nigeria took part in the competition.
According to Salis, KASU won by recording the highest scores in each of the three rounds. He said this reflected the students’ academic excellence, competence and commitment to their profession.
He thanked the university management for its continued support. He also noted that the quality of education at KASU contributed greatly to the students’ performance.
Prof. Musa congratulated the students and described their success as a source of pride for the university.
He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and encouraging students to take part in activities that promote professional development and healthy competition.
To reward the win, the Vice-Chancellor approved N1 million for the Medical Students’ Association.
The sum includes N100,000 for each of the four participating students and N600,000 for the association.
Prof. Musa also asked the association to organise a health outreach programme in selected communities across Kaduna State.
He assured the students that the university will sponsor the programme. He stressed the importance of taking the benefits of medical education beyond campus to people who need healthcare services.
The victory underscores KASU’s commitment to quality medical education and to producing competent healthcare professionals.
