The Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo (FUSTKABO), Kano State, has secured accreditation for 20 courses, including medical programmes, ahead of its maiden academic session.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, congratulated the university’s Governing Council, management and staff on the achievement. He urged them to keep up the progress and maintain high academic standards.
He spoke on Thursday when the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council, Grace Laoye-Tomori, led council members on a courtesy visit to him at the National Assembly in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate.
Laoye-Tomori briefed the senator on the accreditation and described it as a major step towards the start of academic activities.
She also commended Barau, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, for his role in the institution’s growth from Federal Polytechnic Kabo into a university.
She recalled that he sponsored the bill that established the federal polytechnic in 2016, and later helped to convert it into a university in 2025.
“Today, we have 20 outstanding courses accredited, including medical programmes. On behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff and students, we sincerely appreciate his tremendous contributions to the development of this institution,” she said.
In his response, Barau thanked President Bola Tinubu for signing the bill that converted the institution into a university.
“I am delighted with the remarkable progress recorded by the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, within such a short period. I commend the Governing Council, management and staff for this achievement and urge them to sustain the momentum by maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the institution. According to him, access to quality education and relevant skills is key to preparing young Nigerians for national development.
“Our greatest asset as a nation is our human resources, particularly the youth. We must ensure they have access to quality education and the necessary skills to drive national development,” he added.
