A total of 371 students of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, graduated with First Class honours at the institution’s 21st convocation ceremony on Friday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, disclosed this at the event, held for the award of first and higher degrees and the presentation of prizes to deserving graduates.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the university graduated 1,843 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. They comprise 1,655 undergraduates and 188 postgraduates.
The breakdown shows that 371 students earned First Class, 926 bagged Second Class Upper and 345 finished with Second Class Lower. Thirteen graduated with Third Class.
Miss Etta Queendolin of the Department of Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.99.
“This accomplishment reflects the determination of our students, the dedication of the faculty and the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence,” he said.
Prof. Anake reiterated the university’s commitment to producing graduates who can compete in the labour market, create jobs, build enterprises, advance research and contribute meaningfully to society.
The Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo, told the graduands that the world is not looking for storytellers or entertainers, but for problem-solvers.
He said life remains meaningless without a discovered purpose. He urged the graduating students not to become wandering stars, and to excel in their chosen fields.
“Refuse to wander away from God-ordained place because displacement can be pitiable.
“Don’t wait to see problems solved; but take steps to solve problems,” he said.
According to him, widespread problems mean opportunities everywhere that graduands can tap into.
The Pro-Chancellor, Mrs Faith Oyedepo, also congratulated the graduating students. She urged them to invest in learning, develop their skills and prepare for future opportunities.
She encouraged them to create solutions to the problems of humanity and transform territories, moving from personal success to societal impact.
“Do not waste your waiting season but make global impact and begin locally,” she said.
She also advised the students to stand for the truth in a generation of compromise.
