The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) in Damaturu has achieved a major milestone—it has been granted full accreditation by the West African College of Physicians (WACP) to train 25 resident doctors.
Governor Mai Mala Buni shared the news during a surprise inspection of the hospital’s Community Medicine Department, which was constructed under his administration. The announcement came through a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs at the Government House in Damaturu.
According to the governor, this achievement will significantly boost healthcare manpower development in the state.

Governor Buni was joined by Senator Musa Mustapha (APC – Yobe East) and other senior government officials during the inspection visit.
The WACP accreditation followed a visit from a team of experts who assessed the department between November 11 and 14, 2024. In an official letter, WACP Secretary-General Musa Dankyau confirmed that the accreditation will last for five years.
The hospital is now authorized to train 15 junior residents and 10 senior residents. The management has been advised to apply for reaccreditation six months before the current accreditation expires on March 23, 2030.
