Federal College of Education Technical Umunze Gets New Provost as Governing Council Appoints Four Principal Officers

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, has approved the appointment of Dr Ejezie Virginia Nonye as the institution’s new provost, alongside three other principal officers.

The council also appointed Mr Eze Joachim as registrar, Mr Oguegbulu Philip as bursar, and Mr Ameh Godfrey Shaibu as librarian.

The appointments followed a screening and interview exercise conducted by the institution’s 8th Governing Council, chaired by Gani Azeez, with appointment letters issued on Thursday by the outgoing Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs Bessie Nkah.

The outgoing provost, Prof Theresa Obumneme Okoli, congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged staff members to support the new leadership in advancing the growth of the institution.

The appointments were received with excitement across the college community, with staff members expressing optimism about the institution’s future under the new administration.

About the New Provost

Dr Ejezie is no stranger to the institution. She joined the college in 1992 as an assistant lecturer and steadily rose to the rank of chief lecturer in 2011, accumulating over three decades of service.

Before her appointment, she served as the congregation representative of the teaching staff on the governing council and had held several key positions, including Dean of the School of Sciences, Director of Academic Planning and Statistics, Coordinator of the College Pre-NCE Programme, and Head of the Department of Chemistry Education.

She attended Girls High School, Ihite, and earned her Nigeria Certificate in Education in Biology/Chemistry from the College of Education, Nsugbe, now Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

She later obtained degrees in Chemistry Education and Science Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a PhD in Science Education from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

About the New Registrar

Mr Eze Joachim joined the institution in 1996 as an administrative officer and rose to the rank of deputy registrar. He previously served as the congregation representative of the non-teaching staff on the governing council and was deputy registrar in charge of admissions before his new appointment.

He holds a degree in Sociology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Imo State University.

About the New Bursar

Mr Oguegbulu Philip joined the college in 2003 as an accountant and was elevated to deputy bursar in 2025 before his current appointment.

He holds qualifications in accountancy, management, and business education from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, the University of Calabar, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

About the New Librarian

Mr Ameh Godfrey Shaibu brings extensive experience to his new role. He began his career as an assistant librarian at Arewa House, Centre for Historical Research and Documentation, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He later joined the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State in 2006, where he rose to the rank of chief librarian in 2022 before his appointment at Umunze.
