FUNAAB VC Hands Over New Classroom Block to FUNIS Ahead of New Session

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has handed over a newly completed classroom block to FUNAAB International School (FUNIS) ahead of the new academic session.

The handover took place on Tuesday, September 2, 2026.

The facility, funded through the University’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), comprises classrooms, offices and other essential spaces to support learning and administration at the school.

Speaking during the handover, Prof. Kehinde said the exercise formally transferred the completed facility to the school’s management for immediate use.

He disclosed that the project was approved at the University’s Council meeting in January 2026, with construction commencing shortly after and completed in June 2026.

He explained that the facility was handed over immediately to ensure its productive use, especially with the new academic session approaching.

Prof. Kehinde commended past and present Principals of FUNIS for their dedication to the school’s development, noting that their efforts had helped sustain its standards.

He described the new classroom block as a befitting facility that would strengthen the learning environment at FUNIS, and urged the school’s management to maintain it properly.

He assured that the University Management would continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning at the school.

Receiving the facility, the Principal of FUNIS, Mr Olusola Ilori, appreciated the University Management and the Directorate of Physical Planning for the project, describing it as a welcome development for teaching, learning and administration.

Following the handover, the Vice-Chancellor inspected ongoing and completed projects at the FUNIS Kitchen, Council Lodge and Recreation Centre.

At the FUNIS Kitchen, he was informed that work was still ongoing, with completion expected before the school resumes.

The Director, Directorate of Physical Planning, Engr. Kehinde Bamisile, who conducted the Vice-Chancellor round the facilities, gave updates on the progress of the various projects.

On the Council Lodge, Bamisile disclosed that the project was approved in January 2026, commenced in February and was completed in July 2026.

The newly constructed Council Lodge comprises eight en-suite bedrooms, each with an attached toilet, alongside a conference room, restaurant and kitchen.

At the renovated Recreation Centre, the Director explained that the facility, which had previously remained unused, had been transformed following the Vice-Chancellor’s intervention.

He said the Recreation Centre now features a sitting area, toilet facilities, storage spaces, a swimming pool area, landscaping and fencing, offering an improved recreational environment for the University community.

Also present during the inspection were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Idowu, who also chairs the FUNAAB Schools Management Board, the Senior Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mr Moses Ayanda, and other University officials.
