EKSU Sets the Pace with Nigeria’s First Financial Trading Room for Students

Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has taken a major leap forward by launching the first-ever financial trading room in any Nigerian university—and in all of sub-Saharan Africa. This groundbreaking move is set to give students hands-on experience in financial trading, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

The state-of-the-art trading room, located in the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences, is equipped with over N50 million worth of high-tech gadgets. This includes 12 box stations, each with dual monitors, a large television screen for real-time updates, solar-powered inverters, and air conditioning units to create a conducive learning environment.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between EKSU, the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, CFA Society Nigeria, and FMDQ Group, all working together to enhance financial literacy and professional readiness among students.

Speaking to journalists, Mrs. Morenisola Familoni, General Manager of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, emphasized the uniqueness of the project:

“Each has two monitors, a giant television screen, a solar inverter to power the entire system, three AC units to ensure a conducive environment for business transactions.”

She described the room as a real-time global trading hub where students can observe and engage with live markets—buying and selling stocks, equities, bonds, and forex through internet-powered platforms. “With the multi-million naira equipment in the room, all kinds of live trading are possible,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Babatola Ayodele, expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders involved and highlighted the significance of the project:

“This is indeed another step towards economic and financial reliance of the university.”

He also praised Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his ongoing support in raising the standard of education at the university.

With the commissioning of this facility, EKSU has set a benchmark in educational innovation—providing students not just with knowledge, but with real-world tools to thrive in the finance industry.
