The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is calling on students in Ondo State, especially those under the Joint Campus Council, to choose dialogue and understanding as the way forward in addressing their concerns with the government.
Speaking through a statement, NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Eniola Orowole, acknowledged the frustration felt by students but urged them to take a more constructive route by engaging in respectful, solution-driven conversations with the state government.
“We strongly believe that constructive dialogue and collective progress are the keys to achieving meaningful change,” Orowole said. “Rather than pursuing selfish interests or baseless protests, we urge our colleagues to engage in respectful and solution-oriented discussions with the state government.”
Orowole went on to highlight the efforts of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa since assuming office, particularly in the education sector. According to him, the governor has shown genuine commitment to the development of the state and the student community.
Among the notable achievements mentioned were:
- Increased bursary support: The bursary for students has been raised from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 per year.
- Clearing of salary arrears: The governor paid off debts owed to staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic by the previous administration.
- Massive funding for state institutions: ₦2 billion was approved for the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), while ₦1 billion each was allocated to OAUSTECH and Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).
- Infrastructure development: The state initiated the dualization of roads connecting various campuses to ease student mobility.
- Timely salary payments: Tertiary institution staff in the state now receive their salaries promptly, reflecting a priority on staff welfare.
“These achievements demonstrate Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to the welfare of students and the general public,” Orowole noted. “Rather than describing the Governor as someone who makes fake promises, he has shown a genuine commitment to the development of Ondo State’s educational sector—and he’s not stopping.”
He emphasized the importance of students playing a positive role in state development, urging them to contribute meaningfully rather than resort to unproductive demonstrations.
Orowole also made it clear that if there ever comes a time to resist any harmful policy, it would be a united, student-led movement rooted in genuine concern—not one driven by personal agendas or attention-seeking motives.
“This collective struggle will prioritize the welfare of students over personal interests, avoiding unnecessary attention-seeking from the government,” he stated.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
