5,600 New Teachers to Receive Appointment Letters in Oyo State

The Oyo State Government has announced that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025.

The exercise is scheduled to take place at the Universal Basic Education offices in all local government areas across the state.

Speaking during a meeting with Education Secretaries in Ibadan, the Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nureni Adeniran, emphasized the board’s commitment to upholding high standards, including its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractices. Adeniran also revealed that the appointments will officially take effect from January 1, 2025.

He noted disparities in the distribution of teachers across local governments, with some areas having an excess while others are understaffed. To address this imbalance, a redistribution plan will be implemented to ensure fairness.

“As young teachers, you are expected to be creative, adaptive, talented, and progressive. We urge you to be innovative; I therefore urge you to be the teacher for this age and the game-changing teacher for the future,” Adeniran advised. He encouraged the newly recruited teachers to embrace modern teaching techniques and approaches to impact their students effectively.

“This is yet another testimony in our quest to reposition basic education in Oyo State in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s campaign promises to our people, especially in the rural areas, many of which have a shortage of teachers as a result of retirements and other issues,” he said.

According to Adeniran, the first batch of 5,600 teachers out of the 7,000 successful candidates will begin collecting their letters next week. He added that teachers under the People with Disabilities category and applicants for carers’ positions should visit the SUBEB headquarters in Agodi to collect their appointment letters.

Adeniran also disclosed that the Seyi Makinde-led administration has paid N2.5 billion as counterpart funding for the 2022 and 2023 UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects. This funding will ensure uninterrupted infrastructural development in basic and junior secondary schools.

The chairman congratulated the newly recruited teachers, urging them to uphold professional ethics and adhere strictly to the professional code of conduct. He also commended Governor Makinde for his continued support and intervention in the education sector, which, according to him, has positioned Oyo State as a leader among its peers.
