Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, took to the streets on Monday to protest issues affecting their education and well-being.
The Iseyin campus, home to LAUTECH’s College of Agriculture, was established by Governor Seyi Makinde to expand the university’s reach. However, students have expressed frustration over persistent challenges, including the absence of lecturers and soaring living expenses.
Hundreds of students gathered to voice their grievances, highlighting that many lecturers, who commute from Ogbomoso to Iseyin, often fail to show up for classes.
In addition to academic concerns, students noted that transportation and accommodation costs have become unaffordable since resuming after their last holiday.
One student, who chose to remain anonymous, called on the Oyo State government to intervene, saying:
“I was just informed that agric department students are currently protesting for some facilities to be made available for usage at their farms and some other peculiar requests like transportation costs, housing, etc. They are also protesting the absence of most lecturers from the campus. We appeal to the education committee to kindly liaise with the school management for prompt resolution.”
The students urged the government and university authorities to address these issues promptly to ensure a smooth academic experience.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
