FUTMINNA Set to Graduate 5,816 Students at Landmark 33rd Convocation

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) is gearing up for its 33rd convocation ceremony and 42nd Founders’ Day, a momentous occasion that will celebrate academic excellence and institutional growth.

Speaking at a pre-convocation press briefing held at the university’s main campus in Gidan Kwano, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, announced that a total of 5,816 students would be graduating for the 2023/2024 academic session. This includes 4,955 undergraduate students, 632 master’s degree recipients, 105 postgraduate diploma holders, and 124 PhD graduates.

“We are graduating a total of 5,816 students for the 2023/2024 academic session, comprising 4,955 undergraduates, 632 master’s degree graduates, 105 postgraduate diploma recipients, and 124 PhD holders,” Prof. Kuta stated.

Among the undergraduate graduands, 119 have earned first-class honors, 1,431 will graduate with second-class upper, 2,341 with second-class lower, 972 with third-class, and 92 with pass degrees.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s commitment to academic expansion, announcing the introduction of 13 new programs, including Data Science, Software Engineering, Public Health, and Forensic Science. These programs have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and are aimed at equipping students with skills relevant to today’s job market.

FUTMINNA continues to make strides in research and innovation, strengthening collaborations with both local and international institutions. “We have partnered with institutions such as Montana Technological University, USA, and the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana, to enhance our research capabilities and provide opportunities for staff and students,” he said.

To further improve the learning experience, the university has invested in digitalization by implementing e-learning platforms. In addition, staff development remains a priority, with 94 study fellowships awarded and 112 staff members sponsored for workshops and conferences.

The convocation ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 1, 2025, at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square, Gidan Kwano campus. In addition to the graduation event, other activities planned for the celebration include a Juma’at prayer, an interdenominational church service, the Chancellor’s Cup Football Competition, a Scientific Research Exhibition, and the commissioning of completed projects.

Expressing gratitude to the university community, partners, and stakeholders, Prof. Kuta reaffirmed FUTMINNA’s dedication to academic excellence. “We are proud of our achievements and look forward to continuing to provide quality education and research opportunities to our students and staff,” he said.

The university will also confer honorary degrees on deserving individuals, recognizing their contributions to education and society.
