Wesley University, Ondo, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce 10 new academic programs, further broadening its academic landscape. This development raises the total number of NUC-accredited undergraduate programs at the university to 60.
The approval, conveyed in an official letter dated January 27, 2025, follows a resource verification visit by an expert panel to assess the university’s facilities and faculty strength. Signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the NUC’s Executive Secretary, the letter confirmed that these programs will commence at the university’s main campus from the 2024/2025 academic session.
The letter also stated:
“I am to add that the approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery of the programme. Before the part-time mode of any undergraduate programme can commence, a request should be forwarded to the Commission for further processing. The programme shall bear only the approved title and nomenclature, and any change will require the approval of the Commission. The University is enjoined to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programme.”
Reacting to the news, Wesley University’s Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Revd Prof. Sunday Obeka, described the approval as a major milestone for the institution, emphasizing its commitment to providing high-quality education and training future professionals who will contribute meaningfully to society.
“The NUC’s approval is timely and underscores our readiness to train competent graduates in diverse fields,” he said.
The newly approved programs include Entrepreneurship, Office Management Technology, Surveying, Optometry, Public Health, and Radiography. Others are Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management, Economics, and Community Health.
Obeka encouraged prospective students to apply, as the university gears up to commence full academic activities for these courses.
