It was a day of excitement and new beginnings as over 200 fresh students were officially welcomed into the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, located in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The event marked the institution’s 10th matriculation ceremony, and it brought together school officials, community leaders, and families in a celebration of academic pursuit and personal growth.

Addressing the new students, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Agbabiaka Lukman Adegoke, encouraged them to make the most of the opportunities the polytechnic offers. He urged them to stay focused on their studies, work hard, and aim to make meaningful contributions in their chosen fields. He also warned against joining cult groups or engaging in any activities that could derail their future.

“Matriculation marks your official acceptance into this esteemed polytechnic and signals the beginning of a new chapter in your quest for knowledge, skill acquisition and character development,” the Rector stated.

In a goodwill message, the traditional ruler of Ekowe Community, His Royal Highness, Dr. Toboro Andy Goodwill, advised the students to uphold good behavior and represent the institution positively.

“You have a duty to perform, you owe your parents a duty who have given you this opportunity, you have taken an oath to be of good behavior, you are here to better the name of the school,” he said.

He also praised the school’s leadership for their commitment to the growth of the polytechnic and for providing educational opportunities to young people in the community.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Obawale Adebisi, emphasized the importance of education in national development. He noted that empowering students through education is key to solving challenges like poverty and ensuring a sustainable economy. He encouraged the matriculating students to see themselves as future contributors to nation-building.

Some of the new students, Newton Abel and Felix Anita, shared their joy and gratitude. They thanked God, the Rector, and their lecturers for the opportunity to be part of the institution.
