Eight students from Ifo High School in Ogun State have been arrested by the state police command for allegedly engaging in cult-related activities within their school premises. The students, aged between 15 and 16, were apprehended on Friday, March 21, following a report made by the school’s vice principal and a teacher.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the arrest was a joint effort between officers from the Ifo Police Division and school authorities. According to her, the students were reportedly causing disturbances and extorting valuables from fellow students.
She stated:
“On the 21st of March 2025, at about 1205hrs, the Vice Principal of Ifo High School, Mr. Alako Oluwole, alongside a teacher, Mr Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius reported that a group of students had been involved in cult-related activities, perpetuating disturbances and extorting valuables from fellow students.
The arrested students have been identified as follows: Omolaso Waris (16 years), Bennett Bolawatife (15 years), Aluko Taiwo (15 years), Akinola Ifeoluwa (16 years), Azeez Hassan (16 years), Kilani Babatunde aka Soldier (16 years), Kehinde Aluko (15 years), and Fasedemi Samuel (16 years).”
Further investigations revealed that the students were members of a group known as Future Guys (F.T.G.), allegedly initiated by two senior students in SSS 1, identified as Ebenezer Ope (the group’s president) and Ebenezer Tobi.
Police say investigations are still ongoing to assess the extent of the cult’s influence within the school. Once preliminary inquiries are completed, the suspects will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered that the students be brought before him on the next working day. He also emphasized the need for further interviews and possible referrals for counseling and mentorship.
He reaffirmed the command’s dedication to maintaining safety in schools and called on parents, teachers, and local leaders to work together to curb cultism among youths.
