Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling the state’s public education system by improving infrastructure, recruiting more qualified teachers, and creating a safe, supportive learning environment.
During a recent inspection of school renovations in Edo Central Senatorial District, the governor highlighted the poor conditions he encountered earlier in January 2025 and shared his administration’s swift action to fix them. The transformation, he said, is already visible across many schools in the state.
Since assuming office, Okpebholo has prioritized people-oriented policies, declaring a state of emergency in the education sector and launching widespread renovations and upgrades. Many schools once left neglected now feature new classrooms, perimeter fences, and improved learning spaces.
The governor emphasized that his vision is to ensure public schools in Edo can rival private institutions in terms of quality, safety, and affordability.
He said,
“School renovations are ongoing across the three senatorial districts of Edo State. After this, more qualified teachers will be employed to ensure our children get a quality education.
As a government, we are working to ensure we restore quality in our education system and ensure it is affordable.
Our goal as a government is to see every Edo child attend a public school and get the quality education that will woo more people to embrace public schools.”
He also stressed that his administration is working toward making the state’s education system meet global standards — a step aimed at restoring confidence in public schools and ensuring every child has access to quality learning opportunities.
