Ogun State to Boost Learning with 20,000 New School Furniture

In a major push to improve the learning environment across schools, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the distribution of 20,000 tables and chairs to schools throughout the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, announced this during a three-day capacity-building training for staff of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), along with principals and management teams of the state’s eight technical colleges. The training took place at the OPIC Tower in Abeokuta.

Prof. Arigbabu explained that the project was awarded entirely to local artisans, ensuring that the initiative not only benefits students but also supports local businesses. He further disclosed that the first phase of the project had already commenced, with 10,000 tables and chairs currently being produced.

He encouraged participants to maximize the facilities provided by the current administration to deliver quality service and maintain professionalism in their work. He also highlighted that the government would supply additional equipment once the ongoing construction projects in the colleges are completed. “Now that we have remodeled our technical colleges, let us show it in terms of our output, training, and staffers’ assiduous attitude to work,” he said.

The Acting Executive Secretary of OGSTVEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, also spoke at the event. He explained that the training was organized by the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. He noted that the programme was designed to update technical college principals and school managers on ongoing reforms in the education sector and to improve their skills for sustaining the administration’s innovations.
