Kwara State University (KWASU) has achieved a significant milestone as all 25 of its undergraduate programmes presented for re-accreditation have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The re-accreditation exercise took place during the October/November 2024 round of assessments. In a statement issued by Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director of University Relations, the results were officially conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and signed by Engineer Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation at the NUC.
Out of the 25 programmes, 21 received full accreditation, while four were granted interim status.
Courses that secured full accreditation include Taxation, Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, Food Engineering, Biochemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Physics, and Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.
Also on the list are Special Education, French Education, Christian Religious Studies Education, Islamic Studies Education, Arabic Education, and Computer Science Education, as well as Business Education, Early Childhood Education, Educational Management, Agricultural Education, Biology Education, Physics Education, and Chemistry Education.
Programmes that received interim accreditation are French, Mathematics Education, English Education, and Yoruba Education. These will be reviewed again in two years, while the fully accredited programmes remain valid for five years.
Reacting to the outcome, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh praised the university community for their dedication throughout the process.
“The management of KWASU will continue to support academic, research, and community development activities,” he said. He also called for “greater commitment from all stakeholders to elevate the university to even greater heights.”
