Katsina Speaker Awards N106m Scholarships to Support Indigent Students

The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahya-Daura, has disbursed scholarships totalling N106 million to indigent students across his Daura constituency. The presentation took place on Thursday under the Nasiriyya Educational Programme Special Scholarship Scheme.

Governor Dikko Radda, who inaugurated the disbursement, commended the speaker for what he described as a strong commitment to education and human capital development. He said the initiative reflects genuine leadership and compassion, aligning closely with the state government’s broader reforms aimed at expanding access to learning.

“This initiative by the speaker is not just about paying school fees. It is about giving hope, opening doors, and securing the future of our children. What Yahaya-Daura has done is commendable, inspiring, and in line with our vision of ensuring that no child in Katsina is denied education due to financial constraints,” he said.

The governor encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity through hard work, discipline, and integrity.
“You must use this opportunity wisely, stay focused, and become worthy ambassadors of your communities and Katsina state,” he added.

Earlier, Speaker Yahya-Daura explained that the scholarship scheme was created to remove financial barriers for students, support vulnerable families, and ensure that no learner in the constituency is left behind. He noted that 662 students benefited in the first phase, with N32.7 million disbursed across tertiary institutions and basic schools.

“The committee will return to the institutions in 2026 to commence the second cycle of payments for all beneficiaries,” he said.
