The Federal Government has settled the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, CATA, for academic staff in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The payment covers January to August 2026.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said affected institutions, including Federal Universities of Agriculture, had already been notified to begin paying the allowance to their academic staff.
Alausa said the government is also working to release funds for CATA payment to non-academic staff.
He expressed optimism that this would happen within the next few weeks.
According to him, the development reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of both academic and non-academic staff in tertiary institutions.
The minister said the Federal Government is not just prioritising staff welfare, but is also investing heavily in infrastructure across tertiary, post-basic and basic education institutions.
He said Tinubu’s administration believes strongly in education and is committed to ensuring every Nigerian child gets quality education comparable to global standards.
“This is a president that believes so much in education. So far, he has delivered beyond his campaign promises by ensuring that every single child in this country gets the highest quality of education that is comparable to anywhere in the world,” he said.
