A former student of the Federal Polytechnic Ede and Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, Timilehin Oguntuyaki, has successfully defended his PhD thesis in Canada.
Oguntuyaki announced the achievement in a post on Facebook, revealing that he defended his thesis on September 1, 2026, at Memorial University’s School of Graduate Studies.
He described his academic journey as one that took him from the Federal Polytechnic Ede, to FUTA, then to the University of British Columbia, and finally to Memorial University.
Sharing his joy, he wrote, “It is with great joy and immense gratitude to God that I announce the success of my PhD thesis defence on September 1, 2026!”
He appreciated his supervisor, Dr Penny Morrill, describing her as “the best of the best, in training and supporting budding scholars.”
Oguntuyaki also thanked his supervisory committee members and colleagues at the DELTAS Research Group and MUN Earth Science Department for their support throughout the programme.
He gave special appreciation to his wife, Dunsin Oguntuyaki, calling her “God’s literal support structure” for him and their children.
He also thanked his parents, Prince Michael and Deborah Oguntuyaki, for being responsible and supportive throughout his academic journey.
The new PhD holder extended his gratitude to his siblings, friends, mentors and co-authors who supported him during the process.
“Dr. Oguntuyaki is a reality!!!!! Glory to God!” he wrote, adding that he is now looking forward to the next chapter of his career.
His story has continued to inspire many Nigerian students, especially those tracing their academic path from polytechnic education to doctoral studies abroad.
