Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has inaugurated its first-ever bakery, branded AAUA Mede Bread.
The bakery was officially opened on Friday, October 23, 2026. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola.
The project is part of the AAUA FIRST agenda of the Obamuyi-led management. It is also meant to expand the university’s entrepreneurial activities through ventures that serve the campus and nearby communities.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor described the bakery as a remarkable innovation. He said it fits his administration’s commitment to encouraging on-campus entrepreneurship and building sustainable, commercially viable businesses.
He promised the operators the management’s support to help the bakery last and grow.
He also urged them to put quality first, keep production standards high and consistently deliver good loaves. According to him, this is the way to earn the trust and patronage of the university community and the public.
Prof. Obamuyi then wished the operators success and declared the bakery open for business.
The bakery’s supervisor, Oluwafunke Temitope, thanked the university management for the opportunity. She called it a way to contribute to the institution’s entrepreneurial development.
She said AAUA Mede Bread will come in several varieties, including chocolate, wheat, coconut and butter bread.
Temitope said the bakery uses high automation for efficient, hygienic and fast production, which positions it to serve customers within and beyond the university.
She added that the bread is available to students, staff and residents of surrounding communities at affordable and competitive prices. Loaves start from N350.
She urged members of the university community to support the new venture.
The bakery is expected to widen the university’s commercial activities and give it another way to engage the campus community and its neighbours.
