North West University (NWU) Kano Expels 41, Rusticates 18 Students

North West University (NWU), Kano, has expelled 41 students and rusticated 18 others for engaging in examination malpractice during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic session.

This decision was announced in a circular dated January 3, 2025, signed by Jafaru Sule Muhammad, the Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records, on behalf of the Registrar. The circular, which was shared with the press, confirmed the disciplinary actions following the university Senate’s 56th regular meeting held on December 30, 2024.

The expelled and rusticated students were found guilty of breaching the university’s examination policies. In addition to these actions, 42 students received written warnings for their involvement in exam misconduct, while two others were fully cleared after thorough investigations.

The affected students span various faculties, including Basic Medical Science, Science, Computing, Education, Social and Management Sciences, and Humanities.

The university emphasized that these measures reflect its dedication to maintaining academic integrity and discouraging unethical behavior. “The importance of adhering to examination guidelines cannot be overstated,” the circular noted, stressing that such actions are vital to preserving the institution’s credibility.

The university community has been urged to see this as a decisive step toward fostering discipline and accountability. The school’s administration reminded students of the serious consequences of violating academic policies and encouraged them to strive for excellence through honest and diligent efforts.
