The Kano State government has announced a salary increase of 25% for academic staff and 35% for non-academic staff in its tertiary institutions. This adjustment will take effect from March 2025.
Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, shared the update while addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Kano. He emphasized that the move reflects the government’s recognition of the vital contributions of educators and administrative staff to the state’s educational growth and development.
“This decision underscores our commitment to improving the welfare of workers and advancing our broader education reform agenda,” Waiya stated.
Beyond the salary increment, the council approved N3.3 billion for various development projects across the state. Among the allocations:
- N148.9 million for the maintenance of the School of Technology road network.
- N367.9 million as an advance payment for the expansion of Zaria Road.
- N612.4 million for converting external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at the Government House and relocating power lines along Ahmadu Bello Way.
- N184 million for two new ambulances for the Government House Clinic and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital.
- N348 million to settle outstanding energy bills with KEDCO for November and December 2024.
- N662 million for student feeding in boarding schools during the third to fifth weeks of the current academic term.
- N100 million to support the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in hosting its Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Kano.
This series of approvals signals the government’s focus on education, infrastructure, and social welfare, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development in the state.
