More than 8,000 people have applied for just over 100 job openings at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) in Uburu, Ebonyi State.
The ongoing recruitment exercise, which entered its second day on Thursday at Unity Square in Abakaliki, saw a massive crowd of hopeful candidates competing for both clinical and non-clinical roles.
The process is being overseen by officials from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Character Commission, and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. Leading the team is Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen, Director of Hospital Services at the Ministry of Health.
Claudine addressed the applicants, giving an overview of how the interview would be conducted. She explained that the process would span three days.
The interview panel includes several top professionals: Dr. Dogara Okarw, Dr. Francis Soroaye, Dr. Kayode Oke, and Odoh Christianah from the Federal Ministry of Health; Mr. Sunday Babalola and Mrs. Jane Anakwue from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service; and Maigari Tibril and Mbonu Ifeoma from the Federal Character Commission.
The Chief Medical Director of DUFUTH, Prof. Uzoma Agwu, was physically present at the venue to ensure the process ran smoothly. She was joined by key hospital officials including Dr. Darlington-Peter Ugoji, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council (C-MAC), Acting HR Director Okoro Chima Kalu, and other senior staff.
On Wednesday alone, 1,540 clinical applicants were screened and interviewed. These candidates are competing for various roles such as consultants, medical officers, nurses, pharmacists, radiographers, physiotherapists, psychologists, medical lab scientists, dental officers, dieticians, optometrists, prosthetics and orthotics technicians, and more.
The hospital had earlier announced the job openings in late December, calling for applications across both clinical and non-clinical departments.
