Grooming Centre, a leading Nigerian microfinance institution, has announced the 2025 edition of its University Grant Scheme, aimed at supporting innovative student research that tackles poverty and promotes development.
Now in its seventh edition, the grant program seeks to inspire and fund academic research in key areas such as financial inclusion, microfinance, rural development, social enterprise, MSMEs, technological innovation, digital finance, and youth and women empowerment.
What’s on Offer?
The 2025 grant will be awarded to:
- 100 undergraduate students — each receiving ₦100,000
- 50 postgraduate students — each receiving ₦200,000
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a student at an approved Nigerian university or polytechnic (NUC/NBTE accredited), studying at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.
- Be conducting research in any of the listed thematic areas aimed at poverty reduction and national development.
- Submit research proposals that are original, data-driven, and demonstrate critical and imaginative thinking.
- Provide a written and signed recommendation letter from their project supervisor.
There are no restrictions on age, gender, religion, or ethnicity.
Application Requirements
Applicants must prepare and submit:

A detailed research concept (10–20 pages), including standard academic sections such as:
- Introduction
- Research objectives/questions
- Literature review
- Conceptual and theoretical framework
- Methodology
- Data analysis plan
- Ethical considerations
- References (APA 6 format)
- An empirical review covering studies from 2019 to 2025
- A brief personal profile
- Final soft copy of the project (to be submitted upon research completion)
All submissions should be in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing.
