The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially revealed the timeline for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), bringing clarity to prospective candidates across Nigeria. Registration will begin on January 31, 2025, and close on March 5, 2025, while the main UTME is set to hold from March 8, 2025. Additionally, a mock examination is scheduled for February 23, 2025, for candidates who choose to participate.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede emphasized the board’s commitment to a seamless process. He reiterated that candidates must meet all prerequisites for registration, particularly the provision of their National Identification Number (NIN).
“The NIN will be used to create a profile code, a prerequisite for the registration process. Candidates are required to send their NIN via text to either 55019 or 66019 to generate the code,” Oloyede explained.
Registration Fees and Mock Examination
The registration fee for the 2025 UTME is ₦7,200, while candidates opting to include the mock exam will pay ₦8,200. For Direct Entry (DE) applicants, the fee is ₦5,700. The mock exam is designed to help candidates familiarise themselves with the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) system and improve their preparation.
Interestingly, JAMB has introduced a special trial-testing mock for candidates below 16 years who want to experience the CBT format without sitting for the actual UTME.
Increased Exam Centres for Improved Access
To accommodate the rising number of candidates and enhance efficiency, JAMB has increased the number of CBT centres to 870, a significant jump from the 747 centres used in 2024. This expansion aims to minimise technical issues and improve the overall examination experience.
“We believe candidates participating in the 2025 UTME will experience an examination like never before,” Oloyede remarked, highlighting the board’s steps to address challenges from past years.
A Call for Early Preparation
The board advises candidates to start preparing early by creating their profiles, gathering required documents, and staying informed through JAMB’s official platforms. Candidates are also urged to complete their registration within the stipulated timeframe, as late submissions will not be entertained.
