Sixteen-year-old Ebule Oritsemeyiwa Precious, a final-year student at Federal Government College, Warri, has emerged as one of the top scorers in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with an impressive 334 out of 400.
His achievement stands out against the backdrop of generally poor performance nationwide, as recently reported by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). According to JAMB, over 75% of candidates scored below 200, and less than 1% managed to score above 300.
Ebule’s UTME result reflects strong performances in the science subjects:
- Mathematics: 98
- Physics: 98
- Chemistry: 85
- English: 53
Before the main exam, he also took part in the mock UTME held on April 10, scoring 326, including 96 in Mathematics, 94 in Physics, 71 in Chemistry, and 65 in English.
In addition to his academic excellence, Ebule contributes to the “MathsGE With MeyiBule” column in Fresh Angle International, where he shares his love for mathematics with readers. He is the son of Ebule Anthony Metsese, Co-Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the same online publication.
Looking ahead, Ebule plans to study Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) in Effurun, Delta State.
His performance offers a glimmer of hope at a time when many are raising concerns about the overall decline in UTME results and what it could mean for the quality of education and admissions in Nigeria.
