Ebonyi State University (EBSU) will begin online digital clearance for freshers and graduating students on November 1, 2026.
The university says the move is meant to reduce the stress of physical clearance, curb extortion and improve administrative efficiency.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. M. U. Awoke, approved the Digital Clearance and Certificate System. It covers first-year students (admission clearance) and final-year students (graduation clearance).
A memo from the Director of the ICT Centre, Dr. Gabriel E. Ugwu, to all Deans of Faculties gave more details. It is dated October 26, 2026.
According to the memo, implementation will start with the admission clearance of newly admitted students.
From November 1, admission clearance will be fully digital, and the manual process will end.
Clearance payments, such as faculty and departmental dues, will also be made through the system. Each payment will go to the same account it went to before.
The university says this will make payment easier for students and staff, and allow management to monitor the whole process.
Each faculty will clear its newly admitted students online. To set this up, faculties were asked to submit the following by Wednesday, October 28, 2026:
- Names, phone numbers and emails of the faculty clearance officers.
- Faculty dues, what they cover and the receiving account details.
- Any documents or forms the faculty requires beyond the central list.
- Conditions for clearing a student, such as school fees receipt, dues receipt and registration form.
- Any extra requirements for professional programmes.
Nominated officers are to attend a training session at the ICT Centre on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 12:00 noon. They will be shown how to use the system.
The university expects the new process to make clearance more convenient and transparent, and to save students valuable time.
