APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria’s largest container terminal, has awarded scholarships to 45 undergraduate students from its host community in Apapa. This initiative underscores the company’s dedication to education and youth development as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The scholarship recipients, all students of public universities across Nigeria, were honored at a ceremony in Lagos. In addition, APM Terminals extended scholarships to the children of five frontline employees, further reinforcing its commitment to supporting education.
Speaking at the event, Terminal Manager Steen Knudsen reaffirmed the company’s long-term vision for community impact.
“Today, we are supporting 45 students, but our vision is to grow this number to over 250 students within the next 4-5 years. Education is the foundation of the future, and we are proud to contribute to shaping the next generation of leaders,” he said.
Beyond scholarships, APM Terminals Apapa has been actively investing in educational infrastructure. One notable project was the renovation and modernization of Randle Secondary School, Apapa, creating a better learning environment for students.

The company is also expanding its CSR efforts by launching a technical training program for female mechanics in collaboration with the Lady Mechanic Initiative. This Non-Governmental Organisation, established in 2004, equips vulnerable girls and women with professional automotive skills.
Uzoma Ben-Ude, Head of People Function at APM Terminals Nigeria, encouraged the scholarship beneficiaries to work hard and seize this opportunity for academic and personal growth. Senior People Business Partner and Scholarship Program Lead, Omolara Olatunbosun, praised the students for their resilience and determination, highlighting their achievements from a pool of over 150 applicants.
“It was clear that each of them was deeply committed to securing this scholarship, and their determination was inspiring,” she said.
Apapa Local Government Chairman, Hon. Idowu Senbanjo, commended APM Terminals for its contributions to the community and urged other companies to follow suit. She encouraged the students to remain diligent in their studies and maximize the scholarship’s benefits.

Representing the Lagos Port Complex Apapa, Port Legal Adviser Maxwell Maduakolam also praised the initiative, reinforcing the importance of corporate support for education.
For the beneficiaries, the scholarship is a transformative opportunity. Ebuwa Ekin-noma Blessing described it as life-changing, while Lagos State University student Ige Akindenuola expressed optimism about its positive impact on their future. Nansoh Melody, a student at the National Open University of Nigeria, echoed similar sentiments, appreciating the financial relief it brings to her academic journey.
