The University of Calabar has reminded its students, particularly those in their final year, that the ban on wild post-examination celebrations remains firmly in place and will be strictly enforced.
The university’s Registrar, Chukwuka Icha, issued the warning in a statement on Monday in Calabar, expressing concern over the growing trend of reckless behaviour by students immediately after their last papers.
According to Icha, such celebrations often involve reckless driving around campus, flying of colours and other forms of disorderly conduct that put lives at risk and disturb the peace of the university community.
The warning is not coming without reason. In 2024, a road crash occurred right on the school premises involving final-year students who had just finished their last examination and were celebrating wildly.
“The ban on wild celebrations within the campus, around the school gates and all cult-related activities remains in force. The management will not hesitate to sanction any student or group found violating the directive,” Icha said.
She added that the acting Chief Security Officer has been directed to enforce the ban strictly across the campus and its surrounding areas.
Students are advised to find safer and more responsible ways to mark the end of their academic journey, as the university has made clear it will not look the other way.
