Nigerian students have a unique opportunity to further their education through fully funded scholarships offered by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. These scholarships support Master’s and PhD programs in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Food Chemistry at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and Benue State University, Makurdi (BSUM).
Aimed at strengthening higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, this initiative focuses on development-related fields, equipping students with the skills needed for teaching and research roles in academic institutions.
The funding covers tuition, study and research allowance, thesis publication costs, travel expenses, and health insurance. Master’s scholarships are for two years, while PhD funding extends up to three years.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with relevant academic qualifications:
- Master’s applicants: Must hold a first-degree certificate.
- PhD applicants: Must possess a Master’s degree and intend to pursue their PhD either in their home country (In-country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-region scholarships).
- Diversity and inclusion: Female candidates and individuals from underprivileged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
