Kogi University Bans Student Cars and Bikes After 300-Level Student Killed by Cultists on Campus

The management of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, has rolled out sweeping new security measures on campus following the killing of a student by suspected cultists on June 11.

The victim, a 300-level Biochemistry student, was murdered on campus in what the university described as an “unfortunate security breach.” Two suspects were arrested on the same day by the institution’s internal security operatives.

In a notice signed by the Registrar, Siyaka Audu, after the University Management Committee’s 401st Regular Meeting, the institution announced a series of strict directives effective immediately.

No student will be allowed to bring personal cars or motorcycles, including Haojue, TVS and other locally described “rubber-rubber” bikes, onto campus until further notice.

Tinted vehicles and those with concealed number plates are also banned from entering the campus.

The main gate has been designated as the sole entry and exit point for vehicles, while other gates will only be accessible to pedestrians.

All students must display their Identity Cards while on campus, and all unauthorised student gatherings remain suspended.

Vehicle owners are required to obtain Vehicle Identification Tallies from the Chief Security Officer. Any misplaced tally attracts a N5,000 fine.

The Chief Security Officer has also been directed to register commercial motorcycle riders with union leaders and enforce a 35-kilometre speed limit on campus roads.

The management further directed the CSO, Director of Physical Planning, and Director of Works and Maintenance to seal all illegal access routes into the university.

To support movement within campus, solar-powered tricycles will be introduced to complement existing campus shuttles.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Usman, confirmed that the two suspects arrested in connection with the killing are being held, while an 11-man committee has been set up to investigate the security breach. The management urged full compliance and cooperation from all members of the university community.
