The Federal Government of Nigeria has released ₦50 billion to federal university unions, marking a major boost for academic and non-academic staff across the country.
This announcement came from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, through a statement released in Abuja by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo.
According to Dr. Alausa, the funds are specifically for earned allowances, fulfilling a promise made by President Bola Tinubu. He described the move as a “landmark development” and a clear sign of the administration’s commitment to improving the nation’s education sector.
“It reflects the administration’s bold resolve to transition the nation from a resource-based to a knowledge-based economy through strategic investments in education, infrastructure and human capital. This intervention is not just a financial transaction; it is a reaffirmation of our president’s belief in the capacity of Nigerian youths and the invaluable role that academic and non-academic staff play in nurturing them,” said Alausa.
“By prioritising their welfare, we are laying the foundation for a future where every Nigerian child receives highly qualitative and globally competitive education.’’
Dr. Alausa also extended President Tinubu’s appreciation to university unions for their continued cooperation, noting the positive atmosphere in federal institutions.
“Notably, the country is currently experiencing one of the longest uninterrupted academic sessions in recent history. This is a feat attributed to the mutual understanding and shared commitment between the government and the university community.’’
Looking ahead, the Minister affirmed the government’s readiness to keep working with all stakeholders in education to ensure Nigerian children have access to learning that meets global standards.
The Students Forum Nigeria serves as the ultimate hub for Nigerian students, fostering academic growth, social engagement, and knowledge sharing.
